Description

Preparing, building and lighting a fire is easily one of the most challenging activities the average bushcrafter or outdoor leader has to deal with. Time and weather pressures often add additional challenge and the success or failure of the trip or session can often hinge on getting a fire lit, which is quite a bit of pressure. 

This course is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge to light fires confidently and efficiently whatever the weather using a range of natural and man-made resources. 

Over the course of the day we will cover:

  • Selecting good firewood
  • Sources of natural tinders and where to find them
  • Effective firesteel techniques
  • How to use knives, saws, axes and froes to prepare wood
  • Fire lays for different situations
  • How to diagnose fire lighting problems
