What the families say

"I have been attending bushcraft sessions with Bracken for a long time now , before covid times & more recently on a Friday afternoon . The sessions are great fun , Bracken is really kind , he teaches us stuff in a great way & lets us find out how to do things ourselves with guidance if we need it . Spending time in the outdoors with friends is just awesome."

"I really love coming to Bracken's bushcraft sessions.  I have found it fun doing bushcraft with my friends and learning new skills.  I have always loved playing in the woods and making dens but Bracken had taught me lots more skills like knot tying, fire lighting and shelter building.  His sessions have given me more self confidence and a sense of achievement. "I always learn something new at Bracken’s bushcraft sessions. He teaches us about different plants and trees in the forest and what we can use them for. I loved making toffee apples over the fire."

Bracken is very knowledgeable and answers all your questions about bushcraft and the forest. I really enjoyed learning how to light a fire and get it going as I’ve never managed to keep it going before

"I really love Bracken’s sessions because he lets us all get involved and make small fires. We get to use tools independently which we never got to do at school. He lets us have a go and guides us if we need help"

"My two teenagers have thoroughly enjoyed Bracken's sessions for a number of years. His sessions go well beyond the usual forest school activities, and he is excellent at developing and broadening the skills and confidence of the young people who attend.  Learning how to respectfully skin & butcher a deer, build a variety of shelters, and make remedies from foraged plants, have all been highlights."

"Both my children are not only enjoying bushcraft but also thriving and learning so much from yourself. The skills you have taught them are invaluable! They are learning to use the environment around them for survival skills; different types of wood, which plants are edible, which natural sources can be used to help propagate a fire and much more. Your sessions are by far the best experience they’ve had in a like setting.  I will also add how comfortable my children feel under your guidance as their teacher. My son has learned how to remain safe and handle sharp tools safely, (Which he would never be allowed to use at home). My daughter who is usually quite shy is able to approach you with her questions. When we are struggling with a particular task you’re always at hand, ready to help and guide the way. There is a sweet calmness in the way the sessions are carried out; a relaxed environment and less pressure as there is ample time for each task given. In previous settings, there was a lack of structure and less direction from adults. However these sessions allow us as parents to teach our children in an environment they love and feel comfortable whilst taking charge of their education. Thank you for these sessions they have become an integral part of our home educating schedule and journey. "
